Nicodem likley would have added the graverobber Mortimer to the rank-and-file of undead if Mortimer hadn't proven his ability to keep his mouth shut. With everyone focused on Nicodem and his death-dealings, no one noticed Mortimer using his job to pilfer goods off the dead. Too bad Nicodem had to go and get himself killed. But that's ok. Mortimer could sense a change in the wind, and now he's moving on to bigger, flashier things.
