Stalingrad Roads is a two-player wargame covering the 1942-43 winter campaign on the Soviet South Front. Starting with the outbreak of the Uranus offensive in late November 1942 and concluding with Manstein's counter-attack in March 1943, the game system, aligned with the 'Roads' series, will be familiar to players of the first two games but it has been adapted to take into account all the specifics of the campaign.
A classic and easily learned game system, its fluidity is enhanced by the absence of control zones. Stalingrad Roads includes a campaign and four scenarios: Edge of the Abyss, Wintergewitter, Operation Uranus, Manstein's Backhand Blow, Star, and Gallop.
For the Soviet player, the focus is on planning offensives, both major and minor, requiring delicate planning with potentially devastating effects.
On the German side, the campaign revolves around supplying the Stalingrad pocket—a game within the game. Each turn, the German player aims to supply the pocket, with the success of Ju-52s determining the encircled units' supply level. The tactical superiority and German ascendancy are considered but challenged by Soviet resistance during this period of the war.
Stalingrad Roads is a highly playable and enjoyable boardgame, combining classic wargaming elements with a modern approach.
